Happy hour at the Pineapple Bar in Netsel Marina, Marmaris
It is good to tie up in Yachtmarine marina which we have heard so much about. We are met at the entrance by the marinara in the rib boat and Richard as usual manoeuvres the boat into its space on Juliet pontoon with expert skill.
The large town of Marmaris is a 20 minute ferry or bus ride from here.
We have a list of jobs to attend to and are off to a running start. Radar and new holding tank are the main ones but there are lots of other things on the list as well. A holding tank is essential in Turkey as there is a regular “pooo patrol helicopter” which checks out boats illegally discharging waste. Large fines can be incurred for offending.
The promised WIFI on board does not eventuate and carrying the heavy computer to the library through the boat yard becomes a regular event. Within the first couple of days all the jobs are organised and will happen as the week goes on.
Soon Deep Blue joins us and social activities abound with Roy and Margaret from SY Barnstorm and several familiar faces from last year’s EMYR team. We also meet up with Jo and Ross from SY Sojourn who we have been exchanging emails with and have a great time swapping cruising tips. Richard does a respectable rendition of Waltzing Matilda in the bar when no Aussies are on hand to take up the challenge. This is after coming back from a NZ dinner when 12 Kiwis (plus ring ins from Deep Blue) get together at Orange Restaurant half way between Netsell Marmaris and Yachtmarine – a great night of carmarderie.
Before we know it the jobs are done and we throw the lines on Tues 31 March and head for some free anchoring in the harbour off downtown Marmaris. We have loved Yachtmarine and will return again. The morning radio net on 69 has enabled us to sell the second outboard we had, so the living kitty has a bit extra in it for now. It is a neat community of people.
